Mother and Child by Salvador Dali Salvador Dali's tribute to Quevedo the well known poet. Description: Francisco Gómez de Quevedo y Santibáñez Villegas (Madrid, 14 September 1580 – Villanueva de los Infantes, 8 September 1645) was a nobleman, politician and writer of the Baroque era. Along with his lifelong rival, Luis de Góngora, Quevedo was one of the most prominent Spanish poets of the age. Quevedo produced a large number of poems. Quevedo had studied Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Arabic, French and Italian. His poetic works range from satirical and mythological subjects to love poetry and philosophical pieces. The writings of Quevedo were perfect for Dali to pay tribute to as Dali had already created works having to do with mythology and had created interpretations of other great poets works. As Quevedo was one to criticize his rivals using colorful words and phrases, Dali captures that feel with this work. Hand signed in pencil by Salvador Dali. Also referred to as "Dalinian Fantasia" This is a hand engraved work with aquatint color. These types of works hold up very well over time as collectors look for hand worked graphics.
